Archaeological Adviser to the Diocesan Advisory Committee

The Bishop is looking to appoint a suitably qualified archaeologist to advise the DAC on the archaeological implications of faculty applications and other matters relating to archaeology in the Diocese outside the Peak District National Park. Secretary to the Diocesan Council for Mission & Unity

The Council is looking for a secretary to serve Derby Diocese through its work. The position is voluntary, although expenses incurred in the role will be reimbursed. Meanwhile the post-holder will enjoy meeting a range of people, lay and ordained, across the Diocese and further God’s work through mission and unity.

There will be a degree of flexibility in the role but the post-holder will be expected to:

  • Attend full Council meetings: currently four evenings each year, lasting no more than three hours
  • Produce minutes from the meetings and distribute to all Council members and others as necessary
  • Follow up relevant items from Council meetings in discussion with the chairman
  • Maintain record systems for the Council, both manual and computerised
  • Handle written, e-mail and telephone enquiries from clergy, parish officers, officers of other diocesan and Church bodies and secular agencies
  • Arrange venue for the Council meetings as required

The role will suit someone who:

  • has achieved a good standard of secretarial qualifications
  • is computer literate
  • is capable of working with minimal supervision and on their own initiative as the situation demands
  • is comfortable with the need to develop good communications and working relationships with many different people
  • can adopt a flexible attitude to changing needs within the role
