In his search for truth, (and probably one or two nice girls to befriend), my brother attended the local church. As a six year old, I was keen to hang around with my older brother, and so I went to church with him. It was a very friendly place with a welcoming, family atmosphere. So when my brother eventually left home to go to university, I continued to go to the church by myself.

The years passed and my teen years crept up. This was when I stopped going to church. I can’t say why it was, but I guess exams and other distractions slowly eroded my time. By the age of 16 I was no longer going to church at all.

By the time I married at the age of 25, I had an exciting career in PR and my husband and I moved to a Derbyshire village after I was offered a job in a blue-chip company. Life had started to come together and I considered myself very happy. But as my career developed, I began to feel something was missing and I came to realise the gap was a spiritual one.

I drove past my village church on the way to work every day and had a growing desire to attend one of the services, just to see what it was like. I finally plucked up the courage and when I first stepped through the big wooden doors one Sunday morning, a friendly face greeted me and I had an overwhelming feeling being ‘at home’. I was meant to be here.

During the next few months I was invited to attend an Alpha course and from there, my faith and my commitment to Christianity deepened. Through my growing trust in God’s work in my life, I changed my job and found a new vocation.

When I look back, God was influencing my life all the time and drawing me to him through a series of opportunities and people too numerous to mention here. Feelings of being drawn to enquire about faith, or searching for more meaning in life could indicate God is trying to speak to you. If you answer his call, you will begin the thrilling journey of a life with God at your side.
