Lee takes on Church Growth role

The Diocese of Derby’s Mission and Ministry Team is undergoing changes this week which will see each archdeaconry have its own Church Growth Officer.

Revd Lee Townend is moving to the Diocese to work in the Chesterfield Archdeaconry and Maureen Cole (Church Growth Officer) will concentrate on the south of the Diocese.

The Team aim to work even closer with parishes encouraging and enabling them in their mission.

Lee lived previously in Dronfield and served a curacy in the Buxton Team Ministry before working in parishes in Canterbury and then Ilkley.

In the May edition of Our Diocese Lee says: “It is with a growing sense of excitement that I take up my new role and I am looking forward to meeting and forming new relationships with the churches in this wonderful part of the Diocese.”

He adds: “I hope to be able to offer practical support and insight in church growth strategies and would value your prayers for the challenges ahead. Having spent many years living in Derbyshire I am delighted to be returning to this fantastic place. I became a Christian in Dronfield, was baptised as an adult in Holmesfield and served my title in the Buxton Team.”

The Church Growth Officers will also be responsible for maintaining contacts with local voluntary agencies and helping churches to build links with partners in the wider community.
