Church at Work - All ages
Elderly People
Last Updated on Friday, 07 May 2010 10:58
Britain now has an increasingly elderly congregation as life expectancy increases. Many churches are characterised by having elderly congregations but the truth is that the elderly are one very important group in many church families. They have particular needs.
The Diocese of Derby takes its ministry to the elderly seriously, providing many groups and clubs to which older people can find friendship, support and meaning.
Older people are also hugely important as key post holders in the life and running of churches as key volunteers.
As an all age church – we respect the experience and contribution of many of our elderly members over many years.

Families

Most congregations would say that growing the number of families attached to the local church is always a top priority. People with children want to feel that there is a service and space to which they can come without feeling pressurised to conform to expectations which their children cannot meet.
That’s why many churches now have family services, family social events and family support to encourage families to feel welcome and loved in their local church communities. Try a church near you!
All Ages - Children

The spirituality of children has been a much debated topic at every level of the Church of England in recent years. The Anglican Church has an excellent track record in providing Primary, Junior and Secondary education across its schools network and one of the chief characteristics of Church Schools is their acknowledgment of the importance of the spiritual development of a child.
Parish churches across Derbyshire hold a wide range of service for children – often on a Sunday but also at other times of the week.
“Let the children come to me,” said Jesus. “Do not try to stop them. For to such belong the Kingdom of God.”
