Ministry among Deaf People
Derby has a large community of Deaf people who use sign language. In the Derby Diocese they are serviced by our chaplain among Deaf people, the Revd Mark Smith.
Signed Services in Derby
Regular Services in British Sign Language take place in the Ephapha Chapel, at the Rycote Centre on Keddleston Road (Deaf Club). Sunday services are also regularly interpreted at 10.00am on Sunday Mornings at St Alkmund’s Church, Kedleston Road, Derby.

Future Plans
It is hoped shortly to begin new signed worship services aimed at Deaf and Hearing people together in Derby and Chesterfield. Contact the Chaplain for more information.
Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals
Baptisms, Wedding and Funerals can be conducted in British Sign Language (with English voice-over translation) or can be interpreted at your local church or at a funeral chapel. Contact the chaplain for more information
Pastoral Care
The chaplain is available to Deaf people throughout Derbyshire if you need to talk in confidence.
Learning Sign Language
Derby Deaf Church is a registered Centre for running accredited Sign Language Courses. If you have a group of people who would like to learn Sign Language we may be able to help you.
