Introduction to Authorised Lay Ministry (ALM)
Last Updated on Tuesday, 23 August 2011 09:15

Many dioceses in the Church of England authorise people as lay ministers as a way of supporting and enabling people to exercise a specialised ministry in a voluntary capacity. This authorisation applies to a particular Diocese and cannot be transferred to another one.
In the Diocese of Derby we authorise people to exercise a focussed and specialised ministry in a particular parish or MMA in order to assist the local leadership.
For 2011/2012 there will be three strands of initial training for Authorised Lay Ministry available in Derby Diocese:
1. Working with children, young people and families
2. Parish based mission and evangelism
3. Pastoral care
All of this training will be delivered in ten sessions spread out across a year alongside some practical experience.
