Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults is the responsibility of us all, whether they are in the communities in which we live or part of our Christian family. The Diocese has developed Safeguarding Procedures for children that were issued in June 2008. With the introduction of the new Vetting and Barring procedures nationally from July 2010, there will need to be a revision of those procedures. The Diocese has never produced a Vulnerable Adults procedure but with the introduction of the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA), this is something that will need to be done in the next 12 months. With so many changes it is reassuring that some things will continue pretty much as usual. The Diocese will continue to process all CRB applications for paid and voluntary staff and will continue to offer support and training in basic child protection, and a course for clergy and parish Child Protection Coordinators. Training is also given to ordinands and lay readers and the Adviser is in the process of devising a new advanced child protection course for those who wish to learn more. All the training and procedures devised within the Diocese follow the national guidance with ‘Protecting All God’s Children’ and Creating a Safer Church

The letter contains information about the range of courses and some dates that are available for your church to book the training team to come to your church.
If your parish, deanery or MMA wishes to organise a Basic Child Protection Course, then our training team can some to you, free of charge as long as you can provide a venue and some light refreshments.
