General Information - Legal information

The Registry

Last Updated on Thursday, 15 April 2010 11:17

The Registry deals with legal matters relating to the Diocese. This includes forms, notices and licensing documentation relating to clergy appointments and retirements, ordinations and visitations, marriages by common licence, consecrations of buildings and graveyards, reservations of grave space, memorial stones which do not fall within the delegated authority given to clergy, as well as applications for exhumation and re-burial.

We also administer the faculty process, once the DAC certificate has been issued.

General legal queries also come to us be they about boundaries, employment, the application of the Church Representation Rules or anything with a legal slant to it. These may be from the clergy, parishioners or, sometimes, the general public.

We deal with patronage matters; advise the Bishop and his senior staff on legal matters and keep various records on behalf of the Bishop.
