Inter-faith Relations

Last Updated on Monday, 12 April 2010 01:45

The Diocese of Derby is working to develop good relationships with other faith communities, especially in the City of Derby. This was never more evident than in the wake of the London bombings. Close contact has been maintained with the various Muslim communities and the Revd Alan Fitch, the Inter-faith Adviser (001159 305768), has regular meetings with Muslim leaders and the communities they serve.

With the support of the Community Improvement Fund, Professor Paul Weller, Professor of Inter-Religious Relations at the University of Derby, is to undertake research to identify the links between the various faith communities in Derby and to enable further development of future links.

The other notable inter-faith initiative is the development of the World's first Multifaith Centre at the University of Derby and the setting up of the Derby Forum of Faiths. Several Anglican Churches are active within the Forum, along with people of faith from all communities.
