10,000 now signed up

The Derby Freecycle Group this week celebrated the signing up of its 10,000th member.

The group is run by Revd Mark Smith, Diocesan Chaplain for Deaf people, with the help of a team of volunteer moderators.  

The idea of Freecycle is simple: if people have things they no longer need, an e-mail message offering them free of charge to the local community is posted. Those who need or want items can ask for them.

"It can help you declutter, help those in need who can't afford stuff, and reduce the pressure on our landfill sites all at once.  It's nice to be generous to each other and save the planet at the same time," said Mark today.
