Sales Consultant to be ordained

(28/05/2009)

Ordinations 2009

Keith Cocking, a former Sales Consultant in Chesterfield, will become the new Assistant Curate of St John the Evangelist, Newbold with Dunston when he is ordained deacon next month by the Bishop of Derby, Dr Alastair Redfern.

Keith, 49, who has lived in Grassmoor all his life, will be amongst a group of women and men completing their theological training to become ministers in the Church of England.

Ordination to the diaconate means that the new clergy serve as deacons for a year before then being ordained into the priesthood.

Keith began his ordination training on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course and has completed his academic studies and formation at Ripon College Cuddesdon.  A licensed Reader since 2003, Keith now feels that "my broad range of experience within the Church of England will enable me to engage more fully with the demanding role of ordained minister".

Keith and other candidates for ordination to the diaconate and priesthood will begin a retreat at Bawtry Hall on Wednesday 1st July which will lead up to their ordination the following Sunday.

Keith enjoys walking in the Peak District and is a supporter of the National Trust; he hopes to maintain these interests when time permits following his ordination. Keith is due to move to Newbold in June.
