Val Billings, a former lecturer at Derby College, will be ordained deacon next month by the Bishop of Derby, Dr Alastair Redfern to serve in the parish of Ockbrook with Borrowash.
Val will be a Curate before her ordination as priest next year.
Previously Val taught ICT in the Skills for Life Academy of Derby College and thoroughly enjoyed working with her students there. Val has also taught at South East Derbyshire College, Erewash Voluntary Action and Derbyshire County Council.
Married to Richard, she has been training for ordination on the East Midlands Ministry Training Course, based at Nottingham University and is looking forward to working as a Church of England minister.
The ordination retreat (1st-5th July) will be led by Canon Flora Winfield, Secretary for Inter-Church and Anglican Relations at Lambeth palace.
Val said today: "I am really looking forward to serving as a Curate."
Val has two daughters and four grandchildren with another on the way. She has enjoyed supporting various community groups including Brownies and Guides, Mother and Toddler Group, Playgroup and Neighbourhood Watch.
When she is not working or spending time with family, Val enjoys needlecraft, card-making, photography and taking short breaks in North Wales.
