Visit the Derby Street Pastors Showcase on Wednesday 24th June.
‘Be Inspiring' is the theme for this year's Derby City Partnership Week which will include showing the inspirational work of the Derby Street Pastors in the Cathedral, Irongate on Wednesday June 24th at 3.30pm.
The Derby Street Pastors Showcase will help people to understand what the Street Pastors do, how the project is run and who they work with.
This city centre scheme would not work without the successful partnership which has developed between the Street Pastors, who are trained volunteers from local churches, and the Community Safety Partnership, Police, pubs and clubs and the taxi marshals.
Mark Kennell, Crime Prevention Manager with the Derby Community Safety Partnership said: "Since the introduction of the Street Pastors there has been a continued decrease in alcohol related crime and incidents of disorder in the city centre. They are working very effectively with the Police and Taxi Marshals to provide a holistic support service for those people enjoying a night out, particularly those who are a little the worse for wear."
He added: "Their dedication in ensuring vulnerable people are cared for is truly inspiring, especially considering they do this voluntarily, at weekends, in unsociable hours."
These observations are echoed by Jason Dickin, of Atlas Enforcement Ltd, the organisation which runs the Taxi Marshaling Operation, he said: "Street Pastors are friends and companions on the street, they calm things down and reduce confrontation. It is a fantastic idea and this partnership is really working. Making the city safer is good for everyone."
The Street Pastors Showcase will be a brief film presentation of the work of Street Pastors in Derby, interviews with partners and pastors, opportunity to ask questions and then have an informal chat over tea and cake.
