There is to be a Farewell Service for the Archdeacon of Chesterfield on 3rd October.
The Bishop of Derby has written to all parishes in the Diocese informing them that David Garnett's time as Archdeacon of Chesterfield will be celebrated at a farewell service at St John the Baptist Church, Tideswell, on Saturday 3rd October (5pm).
The Archdeacon will officially retire on 30th September.
David Garnett was ordained priest in 1970 and worked in a number of dioceses including York, Ely, Carlisle and Chester. He was Team Rector of Ellesmere Port in 1996 when the invitation came to become Archdeacon of Chesterfield. He has served in the Diocese for the past 13 years.
"As the time for David Garnett to retire as Archdeacon of Chesterfield draws nearer, there are two opportunities to mark the occasion and express appreciation for his outstanding ministry in this Diocese during his thirteen years as Archdeacon," said Bishop Alastair.
During the service there will be a presentation to David and his wife, Susanne, to thank them for all that they have done in the Diocese.
The Bishop added: "We give thanks for David's wisdom, imagination and pastoral oversight in the life of the Derby Diocese, not least in the Archdeaconry of Chesterfield. The Farewell Service will be a very special opportunity for saying thank you."
Archdeacon David will continue his work at the University of Derby, on the University Governing Council, FE Committee, Chair of Church Liaison (Chaplaincy) Group and Pastoral Services Committee, as well as remaining Priest in Charge of Edensor and Beeley.
