Carollyn McDonald, a Human Resources professional, is to be the new Curate of All Saints and St Mary, Sawley.
Carollyn will complete her training at St John's College, Nottingham, prior to her ordination as deacon in Derby Cathedral on Sunday 5th July (1045) by the Bishop of Derby, Dr Alastair Redfern.
Ordination to the diaconate means that the new clergy serve as deacons for a year before then usually being ordained into the priesthood.
Carollyn, 55, was born in the United States and confesses to having moved home more than 20 times in her life so far. She has lived all over Britain but has enjoyed living in Derbyshire for the past 11 years.
She will join other ordination candidates who begin a retreat on Wednesday 1st July leading up to their ordination the following Sunday.
Carollyn said today: "I am looking forward to making new relationships and journeying together into the ministry and mission field God has planned for us."
She enjoys entertaining, a bit of gardening, walking and hopes soon to have a dog to keep her company!
