Jane Madeline Lyon, who has been studying for ministry in the Church of England at Ripon College, Cuddesdon will be ordained deacon in Derby Cathedral on Sunday 5th July at 10.45am by the Bishop of Derby, Dr Alastair Redfern.  She will serve as Curate at Derby, St Andrew with St Osmund.

In recent years, Jane has worked in a voluntary capacity, representing the needs of physically disabled people for both national and local charities. She is concerned to help society to become more fully inclusive.

Jane previously worked as a business analyst in IT development in the retail sector, until she had to give up paid employment in 1992 due to a disabling health condition that means she needs to use a wheelchair.

Jane, 58, grew up in Derby, but after finishing school and university, moved to London.  She has lived in Ashbourne for the past 13 years. 

While discerning her vocation to the ordained ministry, Jane studied for an MA degree in work-based learning at the University of Derby. She has had an article published in an academic journal and also presented a conference paper giving a learners' perspective on work-based learning that has since been published.

Jane and other candidates for ordination to the diaconate and priesthood will begin a retreat on Wednesday 1st July which will lead up to their ordination the following Sunday.
