Jane Legh will be ordained deacon in Derby Cathedral on Sunday 5th July (1045) by the Bishop of Derby.
Jane, 57, has completed her training at the Queen's Foundation in Birmingham and will be non-stipendiary curate in the South Dales and Longford Eight benefices.
Married to David (a land agent) they have lived at Cubley near Ashbourne for 30 years and have four children and two grandchildren.
Jane and other candidates for ordination to the diaconate and priesthood will begin a retreat on Wednesday 1st July which will lead up to their ordination the following Sunday.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my studies, but writing essays after a gap of 35 years has posed quite a challenge," admits Jane.
She added: "My degree in biology stood me in good stead when we started sheep farming, and I am now looking forward to doing pastoral work of a different kind."
Jane has held a number of lay posts in the Church of England including Deanery Lay Chairman and as a member of the Derby Diocesan Synod. Sustaining local communities has been one of Jane's particular interests. She was for 10 years Chairman of Peak District Rural Housing Association.
"One of the Association's earlier schemes was building six houses for local people to rent in our own village of Cubley." Jane recalls.
