The Revd Andy Broom, Vicar of Walton and Assistant Rural Dean of Chesterfield, has been appointed Director of Mission and Ministry for the Diocese.
Andy's job will involve the implementation of a new kind of structure for the work of the Diocese which was recently adopted by the Diocesan Synod, aimed at a greater degree of effectiveness.
The post will involve the co-ordination of much of the Church of England's outward facing engagement with the community across Derbyshire as well as building on work already done in key areas of training and development.
Andy was ordained priest in 1993 after studying for the ministry at Trinity College, Bristol. He was ordained into the Lichfield Diocese where he served as Curate in Eyton, before moving to Brampton in the Diocese of Derby where he was Curate between 1996 - 2000.
He then became Vicar of St John's Walton in 2000.
The Bishop of Derby, Dr Alastair Redfern, said today: "I am delighted that Andy has agreed to take on this post. We have spent a lot of time looking at what the Diocese needs in its current context and I feel sure that Andy will bring a combination of energy and vision which will be just right for putting the work of mission and ministry into action."
