‘We believe communication matters'

Back to Church Sunday preparations underway

(10/08/2009)

The Diocese of Derby will once again be taking part in the national initiative Back to Church Sunday on Sunday 27th September.

Although 38 of the 44 Church of England dioceses took part last year - 2009 promises to be even bigger with all dioceses now opting in.

37,000 extra people are believed to have gone back to church last autumn as a result of a simple campaign of invitation and welcome.

The idea is that people attend ordinary Sunday services but with an extra emphasis on welcome and explanation.

Some churches invite special preachers, others offer a lunch after the serve.

Up to half a million people are expected to be invited to churches across the country and the Diocese will announce more details at the beginning of September.
