Church Aided

School AssemblyThe Diocesan Board of Education has close links with the 32 Voluntary Aided Schools, providing advice on Religious Education, Collective Worship, legal issues, issues of trust.

In addition it promotes and manages building and repair schemes. The church appoints a majority of the governing body (the foundation governors) and encourages aided schools to appoint staff who have a strong Christian commitment.

Through following their Local Agreed Syllabus, aided schools are encouraged to offer children teaching based around the truth of the Christian message and to help them understand and respect the religious beliefs of others.

Aided schools are given financial assistance by the Government's Department for Education and Skills but the governors are responsible for meeting the costs of external repairs and new buildings. In practice the Diocesan Board of Education uses its own trust funds to offer financial assistance and may meet the full cost of a scheme through a grant.
