Derby for Africa Initiative
In June 2008, Emmanuel Nebafuh, a Cameroonian
refugee now living in Derby, walked barefoot from Derby to 10 Downing
Street, to raise awareness of the lack of democracy in many African
states, and to present a letter to the Prime Minister urging him
to take stronger action on behalf of the oppressed peoples of Africa.
Visit the Derby for Africa
website, which gives more details of
the walk and of future plans. These are expected to include a pan-African
conference for students, and a walk across Africa by Emmanuel which
is designed to raise one million signatures in support of a time
limit for the term of office of African heads of state.
The Derby for Africa campaign is working in co-operation with
some local churches, and you are urged to invite a speaker to give
a presentation about the campaign to your own church. Contact Christopher
Harrison for details.
