We are the Chaplains to the retired clergy in the Diocese of Derby. We have been happily building this chaplaincy for just over a year, with the aim that all retired clergy are given the help, care and support they need.
Our association with the Diocese of Derby stretches over 30 years and we are now living in the Parish of Church Gresley in the Mercia Deanery. Our journey to Derby began in 1985 when I served my title at St Lawrence, Heanor after completing my theological studies at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. My first incumbency was st St James Codnor where I stayed for 17 years. We finally retired from St Marks, Winshill after serving over 13 years. it is a privilege to continue to serve the Diocese in this capacity.
We have two sons, Michael (Jr) married to Bryony with two daughters, Elsa and Emilia, who lives in Norway; and Noel married to Nathalie with two children Noah and Yasmin who live in Hong Kong. By God's grace they are all doing well in their respective families and we have a happy family bond.
The role of a chaplain
With the increasing number of retired clergy in the Church of England (there are presently over 280 in Derbyshire) the role of Chaplain, although voluntary, has become a necessity.
The role is primarily a pastoral ministry to emphasise that the Diocese cares about and values its retired clergy and their spouses. We aim to maintain moral for retired clergy and pray regularly for them and keep in touch regularly.
Please do pray for us as we fulfil this important ministry to our retired clergy in the Diocese. if you need to contact us, please do so.
