Derby City Deanery

 13th July

Northeast Deanery

 19th July

   St John's, Walton

These dates and venues will be confirmed towards the end of March.

During the service the wardens will be corporately admitted, and the archdeacon will deliver his/her charge.

The church will be open at least 40 minutes before the service.

We will assume you will attend the service for your deanery unless you state to the contrary on the Certificate of Appointment.

It is expected that all clergy and churchwardens will be able to attend one of the above visitations (it must be in your own archdeaconry) and churchwardens are asked to indicate on the Certificate which one they will be attending.

In the extreme circumstances that none of these is possible, the churchwardens unable to attend should contact Cathy Luffman in the Archdeacon’s Office: cathy.luffman@derby.anglican.org

Churchwardens are not legally in office until admitted.

Incumbents, priests-in-charge or chair of the APCM of benefices should complete and sign the Certificate of Appointment of Churchwardens.

Newly elected churchwardens should read, complete and sign the Declaration on the Certificate of Appointment of Churchwardens and the Trustee Eligibility Form & HMRC Fit and proper Person Declaration.

The completed forms should be returned to the Archdeacon’s Office at Derby Church House (address on the back of the certificate) so as to arrive within seven days of the meeting at which the warden was elected and certainly no later than Thursday, 2nd June 2022. The form can also be scanned over to the email address above.

If a parish does not have an incumbent or priest in charge or that person is on sick leave, the chair of the APCM should sign as the chair of the meeting.

NB: if a lay chair is also to be sworn in as churchwarden, it is important that the election of churchwardens is chaired by someone else (e.g. area dean, PCC treasurer or member of the clergy) and that person should complete and sign the first section of the Certificate headed “To: The Incumbent or Priest-in-Charge”.

Lay chairs of Deanery Synods, members of Parochial Church Councils, sidespersons and partners of churchwardens are welcome to attend the Visitation Service to their wardens.
