Harvest Homes: Mary's story

Mary (not her real name) and her husband had a dream for a strong and solid house where their children could growup in safety.

Mary's husband used to travel to South Africa to earn money and, bit by bit, they were gathering the materialsto build their home.

When the cyclone struck, MAry and her family were still living in a mud and thatch hut.

Mary doesn't know what happened during ths chaos of the winds, rain and floods.

Tragically, her husband and two children are still missing.

She fears they are dead.

The flood also swept awayall the building materials the family had bought.

Since the disaster, Mary has been living in a tentwith her surviving child.

The localchurch has given help, bringing food and comfort and ensuring her child stays in the school.

But Mary is traumatisedand longs for safe shelter.

Can you help Mary and other vulnerable people to have a dry home, safe from future storms?

Donations should be made payable to ‘The Bishop of Derby’s Harvest Appeal’ and sent to Mr Edward Latham, 64 Birkinstyle Lane, Shirland, Alfreton, Derbyshire, DE55 6BS.
