Priest-in-Charge of the benefices of Ilkeston Holy Trinity and of Long Eaton St. Laurence

These benefices are not geographically contiguous (about 20 min apart by road) but share historical and economic contexts and church tradition. They are situated in the east of Derbyshire, close to the M1 corridor. St. Laurence is the larger of the two parishes, with an obvious town centre presence and a civic role. Holy Trinity is close to the centre of Ilkeston with a more discrete presence.

We are seeking a prayerful priest who:

  • has a heart for mission supporting the catholic tradition of parishes bringing fresh initiative, vitality and vision to both churches;
  • can build fruitful, positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including schools (especially St. Laurence C of E Primary School), neighbouring parishes, the local councils and volunteer groups to see God’s Kingdom come in areas where there is much need;
  • will work collaboratively to develop existing and new ministries, growing confident disciples of all ages with a heart for mission;
  • is at ease with all kinds of people seeking to grow inter-generational congregations, welcoming families into the church;
  • will bring a calm good humour and good communication skills.

The rectory is a large 1930s 4-bedroomed house situated close to Long Eaton town centre and St. Laurence Church. Good communication links north and south, across the county and to both Derby and Nottingham are available.

The benefices are both part of the Society of St Wilfred and St Hilda and have passed resolutions under the House of Bishops’ Declaration.
They are under the extended episcopal care of the Bishop of Oswestry.
