The Revd Karen Bradley, Team Vicar in the East Scarsdale Team Ministry and Assistant Area Dean of Hardwick, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Area Dean of Hardwick with immediate effect. Karen will continue as Team Vicar alongside this role.

The Revd Cliff Warner, NSM of Swanwick and Pentrich (Derby) 1979-1988, NSM of Allestree St Edmund 1988-1998, who retired in 1998 and held the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate in retirement, died on Sunday, 2 April 2023. The funeral will take place on Thursday, 18 May 2023 at 11.15am at St Edmund’s Allestree.

Sarah Brown, Diocesan Children’s Adviser, Diocese of Derby, has decided to leave her role after 11 years in post. Sarah’s last day in post was Friday, 31 March 2023.
Hannah Hogg, Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed National Safeguarding Officer for Swim England. Hannah’s last day in post will be Friday, 30 June 2023. Arrangements regarding cover for this role will be announced in due course.

The Bishop of Derby has announced the new Diocesan Secretary will be Will Hagger, who is currently Director of Housing and Investment Property in the Diocese of London.
Will brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked for the London Diocesan Fund for eight years. He is a chartered surveyor and has previously worked for property fund management business, Newcore Capital.
Will said: “I am really excited by the opportunities and challenges that my new role in Derby will present, both professionally and personally. Whilst I will be sad to leave the Diocese of London, I am looking forward to getting acquainted with the Diocese of Derby and the whole of Derbyshire.”
On announcing the appointment, Bishop Libby said: “I know you will join me in warmly welcoming Will to the Diocese of Derby. He will be a great asset to the diocese and in leading DBF colleagues from Church House. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as they prepare to move, and through all their transitions.”
Will’s first day with us will be 1st May 2023.

The funeral will take place on Friday, 13 January 2023 at 12.30 pm at St Peter’s Belper.

A thanksgiving service will be held on Monday, 23 January 2023 at 11.30 am at St Wilfrid’s West Hallam, following a private service at the Crematorium. If you plan to attend please email mdleb@icloud.com.
A service of celebration and thanksgiving for the ministry of the Venerable Carol Coslett, Archdeacon of Derbyshire Peak and Dales, will take place on Saturday, 11 February 2023 at 3 pm at St John’s Buxton. The Revd Dr Simon Cartwright, Team Vicar in the Walbrook Epiphany Team, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed part-time Chief Officer of Transforming Notts Together, a joint venture between the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham and the Church Urban Fund, based in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. Simon started in post on 1 November 2022. He also holds the Bishop of Derby's Permission to Officiate.
The Venerable Carol Coslett, Archdeacon of Derbyshire Peak and Dales, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Assistant Director of Lay Ministry, Diocese of Southwark, subject to completion of due process. Carol hopes to start in her new role in March 2023.

Canon Jones’ funeral will be held on Wednesday, 31 August 2021 at 11.45 am at St John's Derby.

The Revd Canon Peter Walley will step down from the role of Acting Archdeacon of Derby after Easter, with his last day in post being Saturday, 30 April 2022. Bishop Libby is very grateful for his generous and care-filled exercise of this role, and for his contribution to diocesan leadership since January 2021. Many colleagues share her appreciation for this faithful ministry. Canon Walley will continue in post as Vicar of the benefice of Mickleover and Assistant Curate (Minister Responsible) of the parish of Radbourne. Bishop Libby regrets to announce the death of Mr Mat Mawson, an Ordinand from the Diocese of Derby and former Canon’s Verger of Derby Cathedral. Mat will be received in Derby Cathedral at 3 pm on Tuesday, 5 April 2022 where a short requiem will be held. The funeral will be 10 am on Wednesday, 6 April 2022 in Derby Cathedral. The service will also be live streamed on the Cathedral YouTube channel.
