The Revd Alan Griggs, Agricultural Chaplain, and Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of Carsington Deanery, Diocese of Derby, has announced his resignation as Associate Priest. His last day in this post will be 30th September, 2023. Alan will continue as Agricultural Chaplain.

The Revd Stephen Potter, Rector of South Normanton, Diocese of Derby, has announced his retirement. His last day in post will be 30th September, with his retirement taking effect from 1st October, 2023.

David will be licensed to his new post on Wednesday, 29 November 2023.

The Revd Canon Richard Andrews, Canon for Liturgy at Derby Cathedral, Diocese of Derby, has announced his retirement. Richard’s last day in post will be Saturday, 30 September 2023 with his first day of retirement being Sunday, 1 October 2023. Richard will be appointed Canon Emeritus of Derby Cathedral in retirement.

The Revd Simon White, Vicar of the benefice of Tideswell, Diocese of Derby, has announced his retirement. Simon’s last day in post will be Tuesday, 31 October 2023 with his first day of retirement being Monday, 1 November 2023.

20 July

The Revd Dr Peter Bold, Priest-in Charge of Ashover and Brackenfield with Wessington and Minister Responsible for Handley, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Rector of Ashover and Handley, and Brackenfield with Wessington. Peter will be instituted on Tuesday 1st August at 7 pm at All Saints Ashover by the Bishop of Derby and inducted by the Archdeacon of East Derbyshire.

13 July

The Revd Judy Henderson Smith, Priest-in-Charge of Ault Hucknall and Scarcliffe, Diocese of Derby, has announced her retirement. Judy’s last day in post will be Saturday, 30 September, with her retirement taking effect from Sunday, 1 October 2023. Judy will continue to live in the diocese in retirement.

10 July

The Revd Jason Kennedy, Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of Littleover, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed half-time Assistant Curate (to be known as Associate Minister) in the benefice of Littleover and Blagreaves and in the benefice of Findern.  Jason has also been appointed half-time Assistant Curate (to be known as Enabling Minister) at the Haven LEP in Derby City Deanery, in the same diocese, for a five-year fixed term.

The Revd Canon Nicky Fenton, Acting Archdeacon of Derbyshire Peak and Dales, Chaplain to the Bishop of Derby and Residentiary Canon of Derby Cathedral, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Archdeacon of Derbyshire Peak and Dales. Nicky will be collated later in the year. The Revd Dr James Hughes, Vicar of Duffield and Little Eaton, Diocese of Derby, has also been appointed Area Dean of Dove and Derwent. James will take up this appointment from Friday, 1 September 2023.

The Revd Jonathan Page, Vicar of Belper Christ Church and Turnditch, Priest-in-Charge of Hazelwood, Holbrook and Milford and Assistant Area Dean of Dove and Derwent, has also been appointed Acting Area Dean of Dove and Derwent with immediate effect. The Revd Cliff Warner, NSM of Swanwick and Pentrich (Derby) 1979-1988, NSM of Allestree St Edmund 1988-1998, who retired in 1998 and held the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate in retirement, died on Sunday, 2 April 2023. The funeral will take place on Thursday, 18 May 2023 at 11.15am at St Edmund’s Allestree.

 

6 April

Sarah Brown, Diocesan Children’s Adviser, Diocese of Derby, has decided to leave her role after 11 years in post. Sarah’s last day in post was Friday, 31 March 2023.

Hannah Hogg, Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed National Safeguarding Officer for Swim England. Hannah’s last day in post will be Friday, 30 June 2023. Arrangements regarding cover for this role will be announced in due course.

The Revd Felicity Walters, Vicar of Hadfield and Vicar of Charlesworth and Gamesley, has announced her retirement. Felicity’s last day in post will be Wednesday, 31 May 2023, with her retirement taking effect from Thursday, 1 June 2023. She will be moving away from the diocese in retirement.

The Bishop of Derby has announced the new Diocesan Secretary will be Will Hagger, who is currently Director of Housing and Investment Property in the Diocese of London.

Will brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked for the London Diocesan Fund for eight years. He is a chartered surveyor and has previously worked for property fund management business, Newcore Capital.

Will said: “I am really excited by the opportunities and challenges that my new role in Derby will present, both professionally and personally. Whilst I will be sad to leave the Diocese of London, I am looking forward to getting acquainted with the Diocese of Derby and the whole of Derbyshire.”

On announcing the appointment, Bishop Libby said: “I know you will join me in warmly welcoming Will to the Diocese of Derby. He will be a great asset to the diocese and in leading DBF colleagues from Church House. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as they prepare to move, and through all their transitions.”

Will’s first day with us will be 1st May 2023.

The Revd Stuart Baxter, Curate of Kirby (Diocese of Liverpool) 1970-1973, Curate of Ainsdale 1973-1976, worker for the Church Mission Society, including time in Sierre Leone 1976-1984, Vicar of Nelson in Little Marsden (Diocese of Blackburn) 1984-1992, Vicar of Lostock Hall (1992-1999), Priest-in-Charge of Hatton (Diocese of Derby) 1999-2004, Assistant Chaplain of HMP Sudbury 1999-2003, Assistant Chaplain of HMP Foston Hall 2003-2006, who retired in 2006 and held the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate, died on Saturday, 31 December 2022.

The funeral will take place on Friday, 13 January 2023 at 12.30 pm at St Peter’s Belper.

The Revd Trevor Beedell, Curate of Walton (St Edmundsbury and Ipswich) 1965-1968, Rector of Hartshorne (Derby) 1968-1979, Rural Dean of Repton 1974-1979, Chaplain to HMP Foston 1979-1980 Vicar of Doveridge 1979-1986, Diocesan Director of Christian Stewardship 1979-1997, who retired in 1997, was Retirement Chaplain with his wife Mary until 2009, and held the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate until 2018, died on Tuesday, 20 December 2022.

A thanksgiving service will be held on Monday, 23 January 2023 at 11.30 am at St Wilfrid’s West Hallam, following a private service at the Crematorium. If you plan to attend please email mdleb@icloud.com.

 

A service of celebration and thanksgiving for the ministry of the Venerable Carol Coslett, Archdeacon of Derbyshire Peak and Dales, will take place on Saturday, 11 February 2023 at 3 pm at St John’s Buxton. This will be an opportunity to say farewell as Carol leaves for her new post in the Diocese of Southwark. Several choirs will be participating and offering different musical contributions during the service.

The Revd Nicola McNally, Assistant Curate in the benefice of Tideswell, has been appointed interim part-time Priest-in-Charge of ‘The Peak Five’ Benefice (comprising Fenny Bentley, Thorpe, Tissington, Parwich and Alsop-en-le-Dale) and interim part-time Assistant Curate (known as Associate Priest) for Carsington Deanery.

The Venerable Dr Peter Robinson will be licensed as Assistant Curate of the parish of All Saints, and known as Dean-designate of Derby, on Saturday 4th July, by the Bishop of Derby. The licensing will take place via Zoom because of the rules on conducting church services, and will formally allow Dr Robinson to begin work, taking a full part in the life and ministry of Derby Cathedral as it reopens its doors.
Dr Robinson’s collation as Dean of Derby will become an important milestone in that process and is provisionally set for 19th July at 4 pm: it will be livestreamed from the Cathedral.

The Revd Canon Ian Gooding, Curate of Wandsworth 1973-1977 (Southwark), Priest-in-Charge of Stanton-by-Dale with Dale Abbey 1977-1987, (Derby), Rector of the same 1987-2000, Priest-in-Charge of Risley 1994-2000, Rural Dean of Erewash 1998-2012, Rector of Stanton-by-Dale with Dale Abbey and Risley 2000-2012, Honorary Canon of Derby Cathedral 2002-2012, who retired in 2012 and held the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate in retirement, died on Tuesday, 23 June 2020.

The Revd Giles Orton, Assistant Curate (SSM) of Long Eaton St Laurence and of Ilkeston Holy Trinity, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Priest-in-Charge (SSM) of Derby St Anne in the same diocese. Mr Orton hopes to take up his new post in July. 

The Revd Tom Barnfather, Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of Long Eaton St Laurence and of Ilkeston Holy Trinity, Diocese of Derby, has announced his retirement. Mr Barnfather’s last day in post will be Tuesday, 30 June, with his retirement taking effect from Wednesday. 1 July, 2020. Mr Barnfather will move away from the diocese after retirement.

The Revd Phil Mann, Pioneer Minister of Derby St Werburgh’s Bishop’s Mission Order, Diocese of Derby, has also been appointed Priest-in-Charge of Mackworth St Francis in the same diocese. Mr Mann will be licensed to his new post on Wednesday, 24 June by the Bishop of Derby.

The Revd Andy Bond, Associate Minister of Derby St Werburgh’s Bishop’s Mission Order, Diocese of Derby, has also been appointed Assistant Curate (to be known as Associate Minister) of Mackworth St Francis in the same diocese. Mr Bond will be licensed to his new post on Wednesday, 24 June by the Bishop of Derby.

The Revd Julian Hollywell, Vicar of Spondon, Diocese of Derby, has also been appointed Priest-in-Charge of Chaddesden St Philip and Derby St Mark in the same diocese. Mr Hollywell was licensed on Monday, 24 February in the Bishop’s Chapel at Duffield by the Bishop of Derby.

The Revd Cath Hollywell, Assistant Curate (known as Pioneer Curate) of Pride Park,Wilmorton, Allenton and Shelton Lock, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Pioneer Minister of the Journey Community Bishop’s Mission Order in the parish of Derby St Andrew with St Osmund. Mrs Hollywell will be licensed to her new post on Sunday, 1 March at 2.30 pm at St Osmund’s Church Hall, London Road by the Bishop of Repton.

The Revd Susie Curtis, previously licenced in the Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Interim Assistant Curate (to be known as Associate Minister) of Derby St Alkmund and St Werburgh in the same diocese. Mrs Curtis will be licensed on Sunday, 16 February at St Alkmund’s Derby by the Bishop of Repton.

The Revd Jane Lyon, Assistant Curate (SSM) of Belper St Peter, Diocese of Derby, has announced her retirement. Miss Lyon’s last day in post will be Saturday, 14 March, with her retirement taking effect from Sunday, 15 March 2020. Miss Lyon is in the process of transferring to holding the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate.

The Revd Carolyn Baker, Assistant Curate (SSM) in the Dronfield with Holmesfield Team Ministry from 2018 (Derby), died on Saturday, 4 January 2020. A Service of Thanksgiving for Revd Carolyn was held on Monday, 20 January 2020 at St John the Baptist Dronfield following a private family cremation.

The Revd Beth Honey, Pioneer Minister in the Derwent Ward of Derby, has also been appointed Diocesan Pioneer and Fresh Expressions Enabler in the same diocese with immediate effect.

The Revd Dr Martin Jones, Assistant Curate (OLM) of the Denby Group, has announced his retirement. Dr Jones’ last day in post will be Friday, 31 January 2020, with his retirement taking effect from Saturday, 1 February 2020. Dr Jones will be staying in the diocese and applying for Permission to Officiate.

The Revd Carollyn McDonald has been appointed Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands with immediate effect, alongside her present roles as Priest-in-Charge and Assistant Priest in the Carsington Deanery.

The Revd Alexandrina (Alex) Mann, Curate (Associate Minister) of Branston, Cannon and Huntingdon, Diocese of Lichfield, has been appointed Priest-in-Charge of Heath, Diocese of Derby. Mr Mann will be licensed on Monday, 6 April at 7.30 pm at All Saints Heath by the Bishop of Derby assisted by the Archdeacon of Chesterfield. 

The Revd Lindsay Pearson, Assistant Curate of Chesterfield Ss Augustine, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Vicar of Blackpool St Mary's Squires Gate & School Chaplain of St George's School Blackpool, Diocese of Blackburn.

The Revd Margaret Slyfield will be licensed as Assistant Curate (SSM - to be known as Associate Priest) in the Buxton with Burbage and King Sterndale Team Ministry, on Tuesday, 11 February 2020 at 7.30 pm at Christ Church Burbage by the Bishop of Repton.

The Revd Andrew Taylor-Cook, Vicar of the Benefice of the Denby Group, has been appointed Rector of St Peter's Peebles and St Andrew's Innerleithen, Diocese of Edinburgh, within the Scottish Episcopal Church. Mr Taylor-Cook hopes to take up his appointment in the spring.

The Revd April Tompkins, Assistant Curate (SSM) of St Peter, Belper, has retired. Mrs Tompkins’ last day in post was Monday, 30 December 2019, with her retirement taking effect from Tuesday, 31 December 2019. Mrs Tompkins has been granted the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate in retirement.

The Revd Rachel Williams was licensed as Assistant Curate (SSM - to be known as Associate Priest) of Bolsover, on Tuesday, 14 January 2020 by the Bishop of Repton.

The Revd Susie Curtis, Interim Assistant Curate (known as Associate Minister) of Derby St Alkmund and St Werburgh, Diocese of Derby, has resigned from her post. Mrs Curtis’ last day in post was Sunday, 3 November with her resignation taking effect from Monday, 4 November 2019

The Revd Phyllis Bainbridge, who holds the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate, has been appointed Rector of Anslow, Rolleston and Tutbury, Diocese of Lichfield. Mrs Bainbridge will be licensed to her new post on Saturday, 14 December 2019.

The Revd Owain Mitchell, Vicar of the United Benefice of Brigg, Wrawby and Cadney-cum-Howsham, with the benefices of Worlaby and Bonby, Diocese of Lincoln, has been appointed Vicar of New Mills. Mr Mitchell hopes to take up this post in the New Year.
