Derby Cathedral has launched a search for a new Head Verger, offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated leader to play a central role as the Cathedral approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027.

This pivotal position comes at a transformative moment in the Cathedral’s story. The successful candidate will help shape the next chapter of a historic and much‑loved institution, supporting major events, growing visitor numbers, and ambitious development projects.

The Head Verger will lead the Cathedral’s Vergers and Facilities team, ensuring the smooth and dignified delivery of worship, events, and daily operations. Working closely with clergy, staff, and volunteers, the role is key to maintaining the Cathedral’s reputation for welcome, hospitality, and high‑quality visitor experience.

Derby Cathedral welcomes applications from current Vergers and Deputy/Head Vergers, as well as experienced managers from heritage, hospitality, operations, or similar settings.

Are you an experienced project manager who enjoys working with purpose driven organisations and senior stakeholders?

We are seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead and coordinate our preparation for an upcoming INEQE safeguarding audit. This is a key role, ensuring the organisation is fully audit ready, with high quality evidence, clear governance, and strong cross departmental engagement.

Working closely with the Head of Safeguarding and Senior Leadership Team, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end audit preparation project
  • Create and manage clear plans, workstreams, risk logs, and readiness reporting
  • Coordinate contributions across teams and hold actions to account
  • Maintain a robust, GDPR compliant evidence repository
  • Provide clear assurance and briefings to senior leaders
  • Capture learning and support post audit improvement planning

This role would suit an experienced project manager who:

  • Is highly organised, analytical, and detail focused
  • Is confident working with senior leaders and governance bodies
  • Can deliver structured outcomes within limited, parttime hours
  • Brings experience from regulated, safeguarding, education, or compliance led environments

You don’t need to be a safeguarding expert already – but you do need strong project discipline, credibility, and a commitment to high standards.

This is a fixed term part time opportunity, working 14 hours a week until June 2027.

 

Working pattern: 14 Hours per week (ideally over 2 set days a week)

Salary: £47,500 full-time equivalent

Parish Support Team Chaplain

This is a voluntary position.

The Chaplain will lead and support the spiritual and religious life of the DBF, to oversee the opportunities for regular worship, prayer and special occasions, and to contribute to the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of all the DBF’s members, of all faiths and none. They will offer a confidential, pastoral, listening service with spiritual care.

Workplace: Church House, Derby

Hours: Approx 2 hours bi-weekly (flexible)

Derbyshire Rural Chaplaincy are looking for a gifted and experienced administrator to support the team develop new and existing mission and ministry opportunities  that engage with the agricultural and rural community in Derbyshire. 

Salary: £30,000 (full time equivalent)

Hours: 30 hours per week (0.8)

Contract: 3 year fixed term contract

Location: Home working, plus working out of the Agricultural Business Centre in Bakewell once a month and occasional travel across Derbyshire.

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced practitioner to join the Diocese of Derby’s People and Ministry team as Deputy Director of Studies. This is a part-time opportunity, offered initially on a zero-hours basis working approximately 240 hours flexibly throughout the year. The role offers an hourly salary of £18.55.

We are looking for someone who can make a key contribution to the development and delivery of our lay discipleship and ministry training programmes. Working closely with the Director of Studies and colleagues, the postholder will support teaching, marking and moderation, oversee modules within the Certificate of Theology in Mission and Ministry programme, and help ensure a high-quality learning experience for those training for recognised and licensed lay ministries. The role also includes deputising for the Director of Studies when required.

The role is based at Church House, Derby, and we welcome hybrid working as part of a blended pattern of office and home-based work.

Working pattern: 240 hours per year, worked flexibly
