Annual PSO Event, Revised Training Matrix and DBS processing changes

Annual Parish Safeguarding Officers Event

We would like to invite you to the first of this years Parish Safeguarding Officer Events on Saturday 25th June at St Alkmund’s Church, Kedleston Road, Derby, 9:15 – 12:30.

The morning will start with refreshments and registration. We will provide national and local updates specifically around training, DBS checking and PSO support.

The latter part of the session will take a look at how and why we need to manage people who/may pose a risk in church settings. The morning will close with an opportunity to meet and reflect on the morning with other PSO's from your Deanery, and then for final questions and comments before we all go and enjoy what we hope is some warm sunshine.

To book a place at the session, please follow this link which will take you directly to the event on Eventbrite : PSO Annual Event 25 June 9:15 – 12:30  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/parish-safeguarding-officer-event-tickets-332899380007

There will be a second event in mid-September date and venue to be confirmed.

Revised Training Matrix

We have recently revised the Training Matrix in line with Church of England national standards, including the recent changes in requirements and delivery of Domestic Abuse training. The current one can be viewed here https://derby.anglican.org/en/who-needs-safeguarding-training.html and a copy is attached. If you have any questions about safeguarding training, please contact Nick Harding nick.harding@derby.anglican.org

DBS Processing Changes

A reminder that all parishes should retain a copy of the Confidential Declaration Form for all applicants as part of Safer Recruitment guidelines and retention policy.

For parishes who have moved to the streamlined method of processing DBS checks, going forward, please will you send all DBS Checks for Licenced Lay Readers / Ministers to the Safeguarding Office for processing from receipt of this email.  These must longer be processed in parish.

A reminder for parishes who have moved to the streamlined method of processing DBS checks that all Clergy DBS checks must be sent to the Safeguarding office for processing – this includes Clergy with Permission to Officiate, Curates, Non-Stipendiary or other titles you may come across.  If in doubt, please contact us to discuss before processing the application.
