The farewell service of celebration and thanksgiving for the ministry of the Venerable Matthew Trick, Archdeacon of Derby City and South Derbyshire, will take place on Sunday, 20 September 2026 at 5.15 pm (Evensong) at Derby Cathedral. All welcome. Refreshments will be provided after the service.

The Revd Canon Carolyn Cooke will be instituted and inducted as part-time Rector of the benefice of Hathersage with Bamford & Derwent, and Grindleford, Diocese of Derby, on Tuesday, 10 November 2026 at 7 pm at St Michael and All Angels Hathersage, by the Archdeacon of Derbyshire Peak and Dales acting as the Bishop of Derby’s commissary, subject to all legal and safeguarding requirements being fulfilled.
The Acting Bishop of Derby is delighted to announce that the Revd Rachel Williams, Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of the benefice of Bolsover and Area Dean of Hardwick, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Priest-in-Charge of the benefice of Youlgreave, Middleton, Stanton-in-Peak and Birchover and Priest-in-Charge of the parish of Monyash (within the benefice of The White Peak Group), in the same diocese, subject to all legal and safeguarding requirements being fulfilled.

The Revd Enid Barnes, Parish Deacon of Walsall St Paul (Lichfield) 1990-1994, Curate of Walsall St Paul 1994-1996, Team Vicar of Chell 1996-2002, who retired in 2002, died on 1 August, 2026. The funeral will be on Friday, 11 September at 12.30 pm at St Michael’s Breaston.
The Revd Nicola (Nicky) Grey, Curate of Burton-on-Trent St Chad (Lichfield) 2013-2016, Prison Chaplain Werrington 2016-2018, Prison Chaplain Drake Hall 2016-2018, Rector of Cheadle St Giles with Freehay 2018-2022 Permission to Officiate from 2022, Permission to Officiate (Derby) 2022, Prison Chaplain Foston Hall from 2022, Head of Church Engagement AtaLoss from 2024, died on 7 August, 2026. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, 2 September at 11.30 am at All Saints, Church Leigh (ST10 4RD).

The Acting Bishop of Derby is delighted to announce that the Revd Sarah Watson, Priest-in-Charge of the Benefices of Allestree St Edmund & Darley Abbey; Allestree St Nicholas; and Quarndon, has also been appointed part-time Acting Archdeacon of Derby City and South Derbyshire. Sarah will legally be Assistant Archdeacon from Monday, 24 August 2026, to become Acting Archdeacon on Tuesday, 29 September, 2026. The Acting Bishop of Derby is delighted to announce the appointment of Sarah Anderson as the Director of Education for the Diocese of Derby. Sarah will start in post on Tuesday, 1 September 2026 and will be commissioned as part of the annual headteacher commissioning service on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
The Revd Adam Watkinson, Chaplain to the Bishop of Derby, has announced his retirement. Adam’s last day will be Friday, 16 October 2026, with his retirement taking effect from Saturday, 17 October 2026. Bishop Jackie thanks Adam for his ministry as Bishop's Chaplain during this particular season in the life of the Diocese and the Bishop's Office. We wish him well in his retirement.

- The Acting Bishop of Derby is delighted to announce that the Revd Alice (Mina) Munns, Vicar of the benefice of Derby St Alkmund and St Werburgh and Priest-in-Charge of the benefice of Derby St John, has also been appointed Area Dean. Mina started in post on 10 August, 2026.
- The Revd Peter Jackson, Vicar of the benefice of Derby St Luke, has also been appointed Assistant Area Dean and started in post on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
- The Revd Phillippa Taylor, Priest-in-Charge of Boulton, has also been appointed Assistant Area Dean and started in post on Monday, 10 August 2026.
The Acting Bishop of Derby is delighted to announce that the Revd Jill (Jilly) Hancock, interim Priest-in-Charge of the benefice of Chesterfield Holy Trinity and Christ Church, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed to the same benefice on a permanent basis. This took effect on 11 August, 2026.

Louise will be instituted and inducted on Sunday, 1 November 2026 at 10.30 am at St Peter’s Hope by the Archdeacon of Derbyshire Peak and Dales acting as the Acting Bishop of Derby’s commissary.
The Revd Lee Townend, Rector of the benefice of Dronfield with Holmesfield (Team Ministry) has announced his retirement. Lee’s last day in post will be Monday, 31 August 2026, with his retirement taking effect from Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
