Tourism continues to be a high priority for the diocese and the toolkit follows the development of a new website www.derbyshirechurches.org which allows visitors to Derbyshire to plan their trips and provides information on important features within each church, events taking place and nearby places of interest.
The Toolkit and signage packs will officially launch at the ‘Supporting Tourism in Derbyshire’ event at St Oswald’s Church on Wednesday (22nd May). The pack contains a pvc banner, posters, letterhead and signage templates for churches to customise. This is the first time the Diocese has developed anything like this.
The ‘Supporting Tourism in Derbyshire’ event will feature guest speaker s, The Rt Hon Lord Hattersley, PC and The Rt Revd Dr Alastair Redfern, The Bishop of Derby, and allow networking opportunities for churches and key players within the Derbyshire Tourism industry.
The Bishop of Derby said:
" Tourism is an important industry for Derbyshire and churches throughout the county are working hard to welcome visitors. Churches can offer links to family history, beautiful architecture and heritage whilst providing a quiet, safe space for people to take time out and reflect. The development of a tourism website, toolkit and signage pack is a positive step in linking the church with the wider tourism network."
