Pioneering Advent - a conversation with Jonny Baker

Jonny is Britain Hub mission director at Church Mission Society.  He specialises in gospel and culture and applying creativity to worship.  He is author of The Pioneer Gift, Pioneering Spirituality, Alternative Worship and Curating Worship and has been networking with mission leaders and catalysing mission training for the last decade and more.

The Times, Guardian, Express, Mail and Radio 4 have all been reporting SPCK’s research that Bible sales have doubled since 2020. SPCK’s CEO Sam Richardson will share the detail behind the headlines and start a discussion on what it might mean for local churches.

Making the most of church buildings

Led by Gareth Greenwood & Kat Alldread,

Gareth is the Church Buildings Support Officer and Kat is the DAC Secretary at the Diocese of Derby. They will provide an overview of care and maintenance of church buildings, quinquennial inspections, PCC responsibilities and the faculty process. You can send any specific questions to them ahead of the training at dac@derby.anglican.org and they will hopefully be able to answer these in the session. Please ensure you send your question(s) at least a week before the event.

• the practical management of churchyards
• when faculties are needed
• how to respond to difficult requests from grieving families
• a closer examination of the newish Churchyard Regulations 2026”
