A summary of his findings can be found at http://www.derby.anglican.org/index.php/church-at-work/mission-and-ministry-/reaching-out/fresh-expressions
The summary celebrates the clear signs he found of God being at work in and through our Fresh Expressions, as well as some of the challenges and vulnerabilities which also exist.
For some the highlighting of Fresh Expressions carries an implicit suggestion that somehow Fresh Expressions are more significant than other mission activity which exist through our parish churches. The following quote from the summary sets out our approach as a diocese and why we feel it is important to encourage Fresh Expressions.
‘It should be stressed at the outset that there is no intrinsic merit in a missional activity being identified as a Fresh Expression. All mission initiatives are welcome and to be encouraged, but because Fresh Expressions are relatively new to our church life, they need care and support, especially those that feel vulnerable. This diocese is therefore committed to supporting and encouraging Fresh Expressions, but is still fully committed to the vision of the mixed economy and therefore keen to support all forms of mission.’
