- build confidence and strength in discipleship and numbers in these faithful, post-industrial church communities.
- revisit and review Mission Action Planning across the Benefice.
- explore new ways of being church in both communities, engaging with areas of higher social deprivation, seeking to reach young families particularly.
- continue to work closely with both St Giles’ CofE Primary School and local community Primary Schools, including developing schools-work in partnership with the neighbouring Parishes and being attentive to the Growing Faith agenda.
- develop a strategy for engaging with areas of new housing.
- re-engage with community stakeholders in ways that grow partnership and opportunity for the Gospel.
The two Parishes have their own individual identities whilst also working together in some areas of mission and ministry. This latter aspect of church life would benefit from being strengthened.
The Benefice is situated on the northern edge of Derby Diocese, close to Sheffield. With a rich mining and industrial heritage, many of the characteristics of post-industrial contexts are present here including areas of social deprivation alongside new housing development.
The Rectory is a large 4-bedroomed house in Killamarsh, adjacent to St. Giles’ Church Hall and car park, close to St. Giles’ Church and a short drive (7 mins) from St. Matthew’s Church.
