Alan Griggs

Alan Griggs, 43 is to be a self- supporting Curate at St Barnabas, Derby after being ordained Deacon by the Bishop of Derby, the Rt Revd Dr Alistair Redfurn , at a service in St Oswalds Church, Ashbourne on Sunday  5th July  at 10.45am.

Alan settled in Derby in 2001 following his marriage to Louise and they now have two children aged 10 and 8. Alan then completed a degree at Derby University as a mature student from 2001 to 2004. On graduation he worked for the Probation Service in Derby and since 2010 he has provided software solutions to schools. He enjoys cycling, DIY, walking his Border terrier, and tends an allotment in his spare time.

Alan became a Christian when he was 24 whilst working and living on a Kibbutz in Israel and says “the experience was life changing and I would never have believed that 20 years later I will be ordained in the Church of England”.

He adds: “Following three years of study and training at St John’s College in Nottingham, I’m really looking forward to being involved in the parish community of St Barnabas and sharing the ups and downs of life together”
