Jason Tailby – The Canterbury Cross for Services to the Church of England

For outstanding work in supporting Safe Spaces England and Wales as a representative of victims and survivors of church-related abuse.

Jason Tailby has demonstrated exceptional commitment to promoting the rights and well-being of victims and survivors of church-related abuse, advocating for systemic change, and empowering individuals to share their stories and seek justice.

Through his tireless efforts, Jason has provided a voice for victims and survivors, raised awareness about issues affecting survivors' rights, and championed initiatives to improve support services and access to justice. His unwavering dedication to creating a safe and inclusive environment for victims and survivors has made a significant impact on the lives of many individuals and their communities.

Jason embodies the values of compassion, resilience, and leadership, serving as a role model for others in the survivor community and beyond, working ecumenically and supporting the Church of England and the Catholic Church of England and Wales in rolling out Safe Spaces England and Wales (SSEW).

Jason has served on the SSEW Board for over five years, and has been appointed director/trustee of the charity. Without Jason’s hard work, SSEW would not encompass the values of victims and survivors of church abuse. He has gone above and beyond what has been expected of him in his role on the Board of SSEW.

At a time when the stability of the charity was under threat, Jason worked hard consistently to ensure that the SSEW service is as well provided as is possible, to the wider benefit of victims and survivors.

Jason has taken his responsibilities as an expert-by-experience (EbE)/non-executive director very seriously, in many ways acting as the ‘conscience’ of the charity.

He is willing to challenge accepted norms and speaks for the survivor community with passion and deep concern.

During turbulence in the way the Board has worked, he, with other EbEs, proved willing to stick with the programme and to contribute in constructive and positive ways, acting in the best interests of the charity and the continued flourishing of SSEW.
