Safeguarding Training

From this page you can view and book safeguarding training sessions.

In short, everyone who works for and volunteers for the Diocese of Derby needs some level of training.

This includes all clergy, readers, PtOs, church officers, PCC members, Derby Church House staff, deanery administrators, parish officials, church volunteers and, of course, parish safeguarding officers and deanery safeguarding officers.

The training is divided into core and specialist Modules. The Derby Diocese Safeguarding Training Matrix July 2021 shows which training is required and which is recommended for a variety of roles. safeguarding matrix july 2021

The matrix, which can be downloaded here for reference, is subject to regular change as the National Safeguarding Team and the House of Bishops respond to recent reports and implement changes.

The five modules which are most usually needed and are listed below.

Some of these are available online or delivered within the Diocese through ‘Zoom’ sessions. We are currently only able to offer a very limited number of Safeguarding face-to-face training sessions to people who cannot access training online.

Parish Safeguarding Officers should also see the Resources for Parish Safeguarding Officers page which lists specific training which is applicable only to thier role or that of DBS Administrators.

Nick Harding is currently working with the Diocese of Derby to develop and deliver safeguarding training in line with the House of Bishops policy.

If you have any enquiries about the training please contact Nick at nick.harding@derby.anglican.org.
