The Discipleship, Mission and Ministry team exists to serve the Diocese of Derby as it seeks to share in God’s mission and further the Kingdom. Our primary focus is the churches of the diocese, and the individuals within them, but we will work with all who share in God’s kingdom values
Our Purpose
As a team we seek to serve, enable and encourage individuals and churches to become more faithful and effective in fulfilling God’s call to be a missionary people. This will lead to transformation in the diocese and our vision is to see . . .
- A deepening love for God, expressed in prayer, worship and discipleship
- A growing openness to change and transformation, and a willingness to embrace the implications
- The formation of leaders, lay and ordained, as they respond to God’s call on their lives
- A more meaningful engagement by churches with their communities
- Numerical growth in worshipping communities
Our Values
We shall seek to fulfil these purposes by . . .
- Faith in God, who brings transformation and builds the Kingdom
- Being rooted in present realities and having a vision for God’s future
- Being open to new possibilities and responding with flexibility and creativity
- Valuing each individual, believing that they are responsible for their own growth and development
- Balancing ‘being’ and faithfulness with ‘doing’ and effectiveness
- Listening well – to others, to contexts and to God
- Working collaboratively
- Speaking with respect and honesty

Major Incident Plan
Bishop Libby introduces the Major Incident Plan as follows:
The nature of disasters and emergencies is unpredictable. We don’t know what the nature of the next emergency will be, or where and when they are going to occur. We do know it is important that appropriately trained people can be relied on to respond quickly with the necessary help.
I have seen the difference chaplaincy support can make in such circumstances, and am pleased our local plans include that contribution. Major Incident Plan Chaplains are recognised by the statutory agencies as having a significant role to play in a major incident or emergency within Derbyshire and Derby City.
We also have chaplains who are trained counsellors, and others who are specialists in supporting people with addictions, disabilities and mental health issues, and families experiencing bereavement or affected by learning difficulties.

Diocesan Environmental Engagement Officer. [vacant]
Take a moment to read the May issue of Green Ideas.
The next local Environment Network is being rescheduled. It is open to anyone in a parish with an interest.
Contact us with any environmental queries and/or if you register as an Eco church or obtain an award. It would be great to tell your story.
Send in notice of your local events, good news stories, photos and events to share on the "What's Happening" page. The national church is actively seeking Environmental case studies from this area: focus renewables / transport / schools / community activity.
If your PCC are talking about making Environmental changes, there are a number of people who are willing to support you and who will preach on environmental issues, both licensed readers and clergy.

All applications for works to churches can be made through the online faculty system.
Registering with the online faculty system (OFS):
It is recommended that each parish nominates at least two people who will register their church onto the system and administer faculty applications on behalf of the PCC.
All requests to register will have to be approved by the DAC secretary to ensure only those who have a right to use the system can do so.
Nominees could be one of the clergy and a churchwarden, the church treasurer, PCC member or parish secretary/administrator.
The OFS can be accessed by going to the following link.
https://facultyonline.churchofengland.org
Please click on "Register" at the top of the home page and complete your details and submit.
The DAC office will then recieve an email and one of us has to 'approve' your registration.
Please note that when you register there is one tab saying 'identity', into which you write contact details and another labelled 'profile'.
On the profile section please write/select the church for which you are representing - otherwise even if you are approved you will not be able to start an application.
Anyone experiencing difficulties with their online application should contact:

The Ministerial Development Review Scheme
MDR is a shared process of reflection and discernment in which you and the reviewer assigned to you by the Bishop explore and articulate how your ministry is developing in your local context.
As disciples of Christ, we all seek to go on learning and growing in faith, and this is especially so for those of us who serve, lay and ordained, as leaders in the church. We do so in mutual relationship, as part of Christ’s body. The Ordinal speaks of a shared ministry, a working together within the Body of Christ. This implies a mutual accountability. Our wellbeing and further development in ministry invite regular reflection in changing times and contexts.
We pray that this will be a blessing both to you and to those you minister amongst. Your wellbeing as a person and as a priest is at the heart of this process. It is our hope that all clergy will find MDR both affirming and encouraging, as together we consider the part we play in God’s mission here in this Diocese of Derby. We hope that you will make the most of this opportunity so that your ministry can flourish and thrive.
The MDR scheme is co-ordinated by our Director of People and Ministry Development Claire Lees and administered by Julie Fowler at the Parish Support Office at Church House. Email: MDRadmin@derby.anglican.org

What is MAP?
MAP stands for Mission Action Planning. The main purpose of MAP is to listen and discern the will of God for your church and its community. It is about looking at what is happening in your parish and as a church community considering the direction that you think your church should be heading. Once you have established a vision for your church you then set yourselves priorities for your church for each of the following 3 years and then plan the specific steps you need to take to deliver these goals. At the end of each year we will ask you to review your action so that you can adjust your plan accordingly.
